Meet the Tea Maker - from Lumbini Estate
For the first episode in our occassional series of 'Meet the Tea Maker' Chaminda Jayawardene, Managing Director of the Lumbini Estate joins us to talk about his family Tea estate.
Chaminda has over 25 years of experience in tea, he speaks to us directly from Lumbini where he lives and works.
The estate is located in the area of Deniyaya in the South of Sri Lanka. An area that enjoys a relatively cool climate.
We talk about his first memories in tea. His entry into formal Tea training as a “Creeper” trainee the importance of the surrounding UNESCO Heritage site the Sinharaja Rainforest has on the flavour on Lumbini Tea. Along with the challenges faced when making good tea and much more.
We invited questions in advance of our chat with Chaminda. Peggy Marlow from Texas won 250g of Lumbini Tea for the best question - which was: "What is the most rewarding side of your job and what is the most challenging side of your job?"
If you liked the episode leave a comment on the video and we will get more tea makers on the show
