University of Tea by PMD

PMD’s University of Tea is like no other. Held on the very plantations that our tea comes from, meeting and learning from the very people that make our tea. University of Tea offers and in-depth course into the complete tea industry.


This training program will include a visit to the Home of Tea, Ceylon where the participants will have the opportunity to visit the tea gardens where hotel’s tea is grown, plucked & manufactured. This will give them visual understanding of what the steps the tea undergoes right from the tea bush to the cup of tea that is served to the guests at hotel. There will also be a formal session of training which will include health benefits of tea, how to brew a cup of tea plus other training elements.

“During February 2017 I spent a week in Sri Lanka learning to taste tea, plant tea and pluck tea. Seeing the physical work, heart and soul which the team put in to producing our royal breakfast, Duke’s Afternoon and Earl Grey tea gave us a real insight in to how special these teas are. Over 1400 people on the estate work, to produce the tea sold here. Below are some pictures of the tea plucking undertaken. During the high season, tea pluckers can pluck up to 25kg of tea leaves a day. We managed 200g in an hour and none of it was good enough to go in to PMD Tea!!!”
